Charlottesville, VA

On the way

Southern Kitchen
9575 Congress St.
New Market St.
Peanut soup
Fried country ham sandwich
stewed tomatoes
Very good - like stepping back into the '50's

Hotel
Omni
235 W Main St. 22902
No wi-fi, great location, clean, quiet

Breakfast

Bluegrass Grill & Bakery
very good - only did oatmeal but it was a fun space in previously industrial spot

Nook Restaurant
415 East Main
Diner menu, exposed brick walls - looks like it would be good.

Timberlakes Drug Store
322 E Main St.
old-fashioned soda fountain
excellent - like being in Mayfield with Andy Griffin
rum cake and coffee for breakfast - how yum is that?

Rest o'th'day

Bizou
119W Main st.
upscale down-home
Tower eggplant and Fried banana bread pudding - very nice.

C&O
515 Water St.
Looked low-keyed despite lofty reviews

*Michael's Bistro & Taphouse
1427 University Ave.
Had beers on balcony - yummy - very pleasant overlooking UVA

Millers
109 W. St. Live jazz
Where D Matthews got his start
Catfish and grits - good

South St. Brewery
106 S. St.
music 7-11
in-house brewed beers
http://www.southstreetbrewery.com/
Liked the music and space, not the beers

Heading out of town

Jinx's Pit Stop Barbeque
1307 E. Market St.
Pit Master is an eccentric oldish UVA grad who does barbeque his way - and it's excellent.
